The Division of Medicinal Chemistry is part of the Otto Loewi Research Center for Vascular Biology, Immunology and Inflammation. Our work combines our core expertise in structural biology, protein characterization, metabolomics, drug discovery, and translational medicine. We actively promote interdisciplinary collaboration within our division as well as with basic, applied, and clinical researchers both inside and outside the Medical University of Graz. In doing so, we strengthen research along the entire innovation chain: from molecular mechanisms to drug design and therapeutic application. Our scientific focus lies on enzymes, protein design, metabolic processes, and intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) – challenging yet promising targets for new therapies. Equipped with cutting-edge infrastructure, including high-field NMR spectroscopy and powerful computing platforms, we develop innovative (computational) approaches for analysis and therapy. As part of the iMRC, we advance metabolism-centered research and NMR-based metabolomics. By closely integrating disciplines and technologies, our aim is to unravel the molecular and chemical foundations of physiological and pathological processes – and to transform molecular insights into tomorrow’s medicine.
